January Screenings: Connor's Picks

✼ January 1 ~ Love Liza by Todd Louiso (2002)

Love Liza is one of the most brutal and honest depictions of grief I've ever seen on screen. Phillip Seymour Hoffman stars as a web designer in the wake of his wife's suicide who turns to gas huffing and RC planes. He gives a tragic, bizarre, and sometimes hilarious performance that really makes me wonder why this film seems to be so overlooked.

✼ January 14 ~ Out of the Blue by Dennis Hopper (1980)

Out of the Blue was a light at the end of the tunnel following Dennis Hopper's nine year period of being exiled from Hollywood after his second ambitious, but commercially unsuccessful feature, The Last Movie. It was originally titled CeBe and was attached to a different director before it fell into Dennis Hopper's hands and he renamed it Out of the Blue after he heard Neil Young's song "Hey Hey, My My (Into the Black)" on the radio. Starring the legendary Linda Manz, Out of the Blue" was very difficult to find in any reasonable resolution before it's 4K restoration last year and I can't think of a single movie I'd rather watch on my birthday.

"Well, I've never endorsed anything, even of my own, but if a masterpiece comes along, people should see it." - Jack Nicholson on Out of the Blue

✼ January 20 ~ Julien Donkey-Boy by Harmony Korine (1999)

Harmony Korine's second feature, Julien Donkey-Boy, is not only his only Dogme-95 film but the first American Dogme-95 film. It is my personal favorite and features one of the most unique photographic processes which involved capturing on Mini DV and transferring onto 8mm film before being blown up to 35mm using an optical printer.

All movies will begin at 7:30 PM. Door will be open at 7:00 PM for tea.
We have plenty of chairs, but many people choose to bring blankets and pillows to watch slumber party style on the floor.

RSVP is not required, but always appreciated. For the address, please email us at contact@workingroom.online or reach out to Liza / Connor!

We're so excited to have our first guest selections for the studio!
