5/29 - The Aviator's Wife
On ne saurait penser à rien One cannot think of nothing

Monday (5/29) we’ll be screening French film The Aviator’s Wife from 1981, written and directed by Éric Rohmer:
A tale of misapprehension, intrigue and invention, the movie follows the lovelorn François as he shadows a man he suspects is having an affair with his girlfriend. François meets a winsome truant along the way, and together they speculate on the man’s movements, their theories turning ever more audacious as the film progresses. Like many of Rohmer’s films, The Aviator’s Wife is a portrait of the vagaries and vanities of young bourgeois romance. It is also a reflection on the feverish narration of mystery, the follies of exposition and finally, the artlessness of a dénouement . . . - Joanna Fiduccia, Map Magazine
The film is the first of six installments in Rohmer’s "Comedies & Proverbs" series.
This movie was selected by Matt:
Romance and mystery. Rohmer’s movies always fill me with a sort of life, the characters are full and the images are beautiful. They have a breeze flowing through them. Usually great for spring and summer. I haven’t seen this one yet, but have been looking forward to it for a long time. Some of my favorites by him are ‘The Green Ray,’ ‘My Night at Maud’s,’ ‘Full Moon in Paris,’ and ‘The Tree, The Mayor and the Mediatheque.’
The Aviator’s Wife will be playing at Working Room Monday, May 29th. Please note that this is a change from the original listed screening date. Doors will open at 7:30 PM and the movie will begin promptly at 8:00 PM! RSVP is not required but is always appreciated. Email (or dm on Instagram) if you need the address. Don’t forget your pillow / blanket if you want to watch from the floor! <3
