4/4 - The Last Black Man in San Francisco (corrected!)
This Tuesday (4/4) we’ll be screening The Last Black Man in San Francisco, Joe Talbot’s stunning directorial debut from 2019.
This movie was selected by Amanda:
“Weird as it sounds, this movie is a love story about me and a house,” Jimmie Fails
The Last Black Man in San Francisco introduces us to Jimmie Fails IV (played by Jimmie Fails), a third generation San Franciscan who has been pushed out of his childhood Victorian home as a result of the city’s relentless gentrification. With his best friend Mont by his side, Jimmie dreams of reclaiming and restoring his family home.
I’ve wanted to watch this one for a long time, particularly for its gorgeous mise en scène and score from Emile Mosseri.
Fun fact: Director Joe Talbot and Jimmie Fails grew up together in San Francisco, and have discussed making this film for years.
The Last Black Man in San Francisco will be playing at Working Room tomorrow, April 4th. Doors will open at 7:30 PM and the movie will begin promptly at 8:00 PM! RSVP is not required but is always appreciated. Email me if you need the address!
Don’t forget your pillow / blanket if you want to watch from the floor! <3
