3/6 - Poetry
Tonight (3/6) we’ll be screening Poetry from 2010, written and directed by Lee Chang-dong, starring Yoon Jeong-hee.
This film is chosen by friend of the studio Kate Adams:
Introspective, slow-moving, meditative yet haunting. To watch Poetry is to observe.
Fun fact: Writer and director Lee Chang-dong came up with the idea for this movie after hearing of a tragic incident from a smalltown. The incident impacted him, yet he wasn’t interested in basing a film on the actual event. However, during a visit in Japan, Lee saw a television program in his hotel room. The program was edited entirely from relaxing shots of nature, "a peaceful river, birds flying, fishermen on the sea with soft new-age music in the background," and a vision for a possible feature film started to form. “Suddenly, it reminded me of that horrible incident, and the word 'poetry' and the image of a 60-year old woman came up in my mind.”
Poetry will be playing at Working Room at 7:30 PM tonight (March 6).
RSVP is not required, but always appreciated. Email me if you need the address! PS: For those who haven’t joined for the more informal screenings, while we have chairs, most people choose to bring blankets and pillows to watch slumber party style on the floor.
