12/12 - All the Mornings of the World
Tomorrow (12/12) we will be screening Tous les matins du monde (All the Mornings of the World) from 1992 directed by Alain Corneau. “Upon his wife's death, viola da gamba player Monsieur de Sainte Colombe (Jean-Pierre Marielle) is overwhelmed with grief and retreats from the outside world. The musician moves with his two daughters (Anne Brochet, Carole Richert) into a small house in his garden, where he attempts to create a haven.”
This film was chosen by resident studio candle maker Matt Dowdy:
Baroque period piece about an extraordinary composer. A little campy, but heartfelt and full of beautiful music. A movie I love, good for days when the sun just comes for a moment.
Instead of a trailer, the video above is of a piece by Monsieur de Sainte Colombe, “Concerts a deux violes”. The soundtrack to my Sunday morning.
Tous les matins du monde (All the Mornings of the World) will be screening at the Working Room at 8 PM tomorrow (December 12). RSVP is not required, but always appreciated. Email me if you need the address! PS, For those who haven’t joined for the more informal screenings, while we have chairs, most people choose to bring blankets and pillows to watch slumber party style on the floor.
