11/28 - The Cook, the Thief, His Wife & Her Lover
Tonight I’m screening crime drama avant-garde film The Cook, the Thief, His Wife & Her Lover (1989) by Peter Greenway at Working Room, known as being controversial for its graphic nature. Delectable, glamorous, sensual, gross, and brutal (words I pulled from reviews) — I think we’ll have good conversations about this afterwards.
Fun fact: the film’s style was partially inspired by Flemish Baroque painting. An example, The Banquet of the Officers of the St George Militia Company in 1616 by Frans Hals, hangs on the restaurant wall in the movie:
The Cook, the Thief, His Wife & Her Lover will be screening at the Working Room at 8 PM on tonight (November 28). RSVP is not required, but always appreciated. Email me if you need the address!
There are still spots available for next Sunday’s exclusive screening of You Resemble Me. More info here!
