10/26 - Carnival of Souls (+ Lucifer Rising)
Thursday (10/26) we’ll be screening Carnival of Souls (1962), directed by Herk Harvey. Carnival of Souls follows a woman, played by Candace Hilligoss, who survives a drag race and, following the accident, takes a job as a church organist in a new city. The movie was made on a super low-budget by Harvey, who was an industrial filmmaker at the time, and originally screened the B-movie exploitation circuit.
Ahead of our feature, we’ll be playing experimental short Lucifer Rising (1972), directed by Kenneth Anger. Shot in Egypt, England, and Germany at sites of historical sun worship, the film follows the summoning of the angel Lucifer. Inspired by Aleister Crowley’s vision of the Age of Aquarius, the hypnotic film is considered Anger’s masterpiece.
Carnival of Souls and Lucifer Rising will be playing at Working Room on Thursday, October 26th. Doors will open at 7:30 PM and we’ll begin promptly at 8:00 PM!
RSVPs are required for Thursday’s screening (and all screenings in October). Let us know if you plan to come. We’ll post on the Working Room instagram story if we’ve reached rsvp capacity.
For the month of October, we will be collecting donations to help fund a new bulb for our projector! Even a dollar would be so appreciated. Any leftover donation money will be used to stock the studio fridge. Donations can be sent to @Liza-Pittard on Venmo. ☆
